Whether your nonprofit is fighting to conserve the world’s oceans or providing access to high-quality tutoring for at-risk high schoolers, you know the work you do every day is critical. This is why not just anyone can work as an employee for your organization. You want the best and brightest folks who are committed to accomplishing your mission. However, nonprofits often face hurdles when it comes to recruiting and retaining top talent. The biggest culprit behind this is limited budgets (which can affect other areas of operations as well, like marketing or service delivery). After all, having less money to work with may limit your organization in its ability to offer competitive salaries or provide enticing career advancement opportunities.

Whether you’re brand new to the space or have an established volunteer program, every nonprofit understands the necessity of staying organized and keeping everyone informed. Think of your nonprofit as a runner in a track meet. Some aspects of your work feel like an all-out sprint, such as planning for GivingTuesday, while others are a paced marathon, like capital campaign fundraising. No matter where your nonprofit is in its journey, you’ll likely hit hurdles that can disrupt your progress toward your goals. Perhaps a recession negatively impacts your fundraising efforts, or your technology doesn’t support your organization’s growing donor base.

The start of a new year presents a prime opportunity for nonprofits to jumpstart their advocacy efforts and set the stage for a successful year ahead. Donors and supporters are refreshed from a successful year-end push, companies are finalizing their corporate social responsibility plans, and individuals are eager to get involved in meaningful causes. By strategically leveraging workplace giving and other key advocacy tactics, nonprofits can maximize engagement and fundraising in the early months of the year.
Issue 236 Happy Tuesday, fundraisers! This intro might feel a bit different and more personal. We know things feel uncertain right now. With the federal funding freeze in the air, nonprofits are facing tough questions about how to keep their missions moving forward. Fundraising has always been hard work—but right now, it feels even heavier. At Soapbox Engage, our roots are in service. PICnet was born out of a deeply personal experience when our co-founder and I were in Albania in 1999, helping refugees fleeing a warzone. We worked alongside NGOs, USAID, and the UN World Food Programme, witnessing firsthand the power of mobilizing resources in times of crisis. The work of helping those most in need is ingrained in our DNA, and I’m saddened by the thought of those who may not receive the support they desperately need. Now more than ever, we need to lean on each other. If there’s something you’re struggling with, a challenge you need help navigating, or just a topic you’d love to see highlighted in Fundraising Weekly, let’s talk. We’re in this with you. You can receive the Fundraising Weekly newsletter each Tuesday by subscribing today!
Hi there, PUB Crawlers! These are unprecedented times, so this newsletter may look a little different than usual. The first post today is one I shared in the Trailblazer community—something I don't normally do, but with the recent federal funding freeze impacting so many in the nonprofit sector, I felt it was necessary. PICnet (Soapbox Engage) was born from a deeply personal experience when our co-founder and I were in Albania in 1999, helping refugees escaping a warzone. We worked alongside US-based NGOs, USAID, and the UN World Food Programme, driving past land mines, witnessing refugee camps, and feeling the weight of the war’s impact. The current shifts in the US’s approach to international aid and social sector support hit close to home on so many levels. The work of helping those most in need is ingrained in our DNA, and I’m saddened by the thought of those who may not receive the support they desperately need. I want to be upfront and say that I believe we’ll need to rely on each other more than ever moving forward. If you have concerns, ideas, or anything you'd like to amplify through the PUB Crawl, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We will press on together.
