![]() Salesforce has quickly become a leading CRM platform for both the business and nonprofit worlds. This popularity is largely due to one major benefit: its flexibility. Salesforce gives its users the ability to easily customize the platform by installing integrated apps designed to serve specific functions. The ability to quickly and easily add new integrated functions means that organizations can fine-tune their CRM toolkits in a way that was previously only possible through complicated and often expensive integration projects. For nonprofit organizations, building out a set of highly effective Salesforce apps can be a game-changer. After all, nonprofits rely on a particularly wide variety of tools to plan, manage, and track their operations. The fact that Salesforce can serve as a central hub in which you can build additional functions is a major plus for organizations that have made the move to the platform. I don't know about you, but it certainly seems to me that March is keeping up with its reputation of coming in like a lion. In the mix of everything March has brought to my doorstep, I've just landed in Portland, home of a trifecta of back-to-back-to-back Salesforce and non-profit community events. Tomorrow, I'll kick-off the 2019 NPSP Day tour, bringing together community members for the fourth year in a row in Portland! Meanwhile, there's a lot of great content that's been produced by the community during the past week. So while you ponder how March will exit this year, grab the perfect knowledge pairing beverage of your choosing, and pull up a stool to the PUB Crawl. Have you ever wished that you could wave a magic wand and increase your donations? That’s basically how it works when you leverage Double the Donation’s 360MatchPro, Soapbox Engage’s new partner in matching gifts. What are matching gifts, you ask? A matching gift is a donation made by a company to a nonprofit that an employee of said company has already donated to. So instead of one donation, your organization gets two! In this article we are going to teach you:
Let’s get started! Out of the box, the Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) offers nonprofits a powerful, scalable, and customizable platform for successful fundraising. By design, the 360-degree view it provides a nonprofit of their constituents and donors enhances an organization's fundraising efforts simply by adopting Salesforce. What is more, a nonprofit can further optimize the Nonprofit Success Pack for fundraising by leveraging existing optional functionality and adding in some customized elements of their own. Here are our top ideas for optimizing your organization's Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack instance for your fundraising efforts: A few days out of the office can seem like an eternity sometimes. I was greeted this morning by a whole new floor opening in our coworking space in Washington DC, and happened to immediately come across the following familiar logo. Nice to see that it's right near the coffee machine, helping all those playing a few games of Ms Pac-Man into the late evening hours can really burn the midnight oil while also building Process Builder flows. To help us celebrate our Salesforce friends joining us with new office space in our building, a toast with your favorite beverage, and another round of knowledge here at the PUB Crawl. For those of you who are young-at-heart enough to remember, sports broadcast in the US would pause once during a game for "station identification". To be honest, I really don't know why that happened, but it's ingrained somewhere in the recesses of my brain along with random Oakland A's baseball statistics from the late 1980s. I figured, after writing, oh, let's say 177 weeks in a row, that maybe it's a good time to do a little station identification for ourselves. Plus, I did have two conversations last week where someone said, "...and I didn't even realize you were the same guy that wrote the PUB Crawl." For those of you who don't know, between PUB Crawl newsletters, NPSP Days, burritos, and various airports, I live a second life as a member of the Soapbox Engage team. We're the folks that think you shouldn't have to raise money to afford fundraising software, and who believe every effort we make as a community together moves the needle in the right direction of social justice and a better world. So, if you feel like you should be getting more from your online donation, event registration, and advocacy software, I happen to know a team of penguins that would be excited to lend a hand...and maybe put a smile on your face. Alright, that's enough of a commercial break for 3.5 years. Let's return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress. Saddle up to the bar, and enjoy a fresh round of knowledge from your Salesforce community friends! Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! Sometimes, working within a product as complex as Salesforce can feel like me walking through what was a week of blizzard-like conditions in the mountains (and yes, of course I did multiple whale dives into the 7 feet of powder that dropped in 72 hours). Luckily, you're never too far from experts that can point you in the right direction in the Salesforce non-profit world...and friends making guacamole in my world. Wherever you are this week, get cozy with another round of Salesforce knowledge! Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! Every once in while, it seems like a good idea to push yourself just a bit outside of your comfort zone. It's especially helpful, though, to do it when you have a massive support cushion to fall into just in case you make a wrong turn. That's pretty much what I tried this weekend, and I'm happy to say that when there's 3 feet of overnight snow, I was less likely to injure myself on the ski slopes and more likely to wear a few pounds of fresh snow on the way down. So while I tried to dry off in front of a fire, I had a chance to dive into the Power of Us Hub and curate some awesome content from the community. Enjoy this week's PUB Crawl! Any chance you've had the nightmare of not being even slightly prepared for an exam at school? You know, that dream that starts with you realizing that there's an infinite number of books to read and about 10 minutes to consume them all? That vision rushed through my subconscious while doing some college library tourism (long story) at the University of Kansas this weekend. You know, a typical Saturday for me. Luckily, the real-time reliving of a non-existent stress made sports watching a bit easier this weekend, though the coffee habit did help for a certain football game. If you're still snoozing through the Super Bowl...wake up, it's time to study! Join us for a much more effective, and significantly less stressful, learning session with your non-profit community friends from the Power of Us Hub! Where's the community organizing for 2019?" That's true, it's been a few weeks without taking to the air for an NPSP Day, but my friends, we're just warming up the 2019 engines for one of the biggest years yet. My fellow penguin teammates kicked things off last week by hosting the first Washington DC Salesforce Nonprofit User Group meeting in Soapbox Engage's new home, and we're ready to bring the community organizing spirit. Better yet, for those of you outside the Beltway (and North America), I'm excited to announce the first three NPSP Days of 2019, including a world record fourth edition in Portland right before the Nonprofit Technology Conference. So, grab your calendars, get those synapses firing, and get ready for a fantastic year of sharing. And now, on to your weekly dose of Salesforce goodness. PS: that's right, Justin Barss has appeared in a record 3 different PUB Crawl lead photo. Someone get that man an agent! For my first trip of the new year, I headed to the Mountain West, and right upon landing in Denver, boom, snowstorm. Luckily, I made it unscathed to the home of the Chipotle burritos, wearing a jacket that makes me feel like an Arctic explorer. In case you're somewhere across the vast swath of the US that has been tackled and beat up by this weekend's winter weather like an NFL playoff quarterback, grab a warm, relaxing beverage of your choosing, and join me for a round of Salesforce knowledge. In case some snow falls out of your inbox when you read this, you can blame politics and the weather. It seems that the weather decided to raise the ante on the US government shutdown today, blanketing the city with snow and by doing so, forcing the government to completely close in the capital city today. May our friends further north not laugh too hard at our few inches of snow on the ground. I held off downhill skiing 20th St NW during this storm (it may have happened in the past), and instead braved it into the office to report on all the goodness our community has shared this week. Also, a nearby coffee shop was giving away free coffee. But really, it was all about my commitment to the community. Happy 2019 PUB Crawl friends! If you're reading this, you're probably asking yourself, "wait, why wasn't the world premiere of the Goat Farm Foundation's new thrilling series, NPSP Cribs, not nominated for every Golden Globe award possible?" I know, that's how I felt too. Especially after going out the day after New Year's to buy a whole rack of this obviously perfect penguin dress shirt to wear on the red carpet. Unfortunately, I've been told that the Golden Globes are only given out to shows that have already premiered, and since the Goat Farm Foundation's NPSP Cribs debuts on January 17 at 3pm ET, there was some silly rule that got in the way. Well, no matter, this show is can't miss TV! So, while the studio set gets prepped, enjoy the green room beverages and snacks, and take a look at all the knowledge from the PUB! Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! All sorts of nonprofit organizations rely on the world’s most popular constituent relationship management platform, Salesforce, for their data and donor management needs. If your organization is already on Salesforce, you have to make sure you’re taking full advantage of this powerful CRM platform. Plenty of nonprofits recognize the benefits of using a CRM to record, manage, and analyze their data in smarter ways, but fewer realize that using donation apps that integrate with Salesforce can help this flexible platform have an even greater impact on your fundraising and stewardship efforts. If your organization is in the market for new online donation software, it can be tricky choosing between a Salesforce-integrated donation app and other tools that don’t integrate with Salesforce. There are benefits to each, but donation apps that integrate with Salesforce tend to win out for a few reasons. Let's walk through why, starting with the basics: As the year comes to an end, I’ll keep this intro short. Mostly because today was one long blur of a day, culminating with the handing over of keys from our Soapbox Engage home of more than a decade in Dupont Circle. Moving continues to be just as fun as I remembered it...especially on New Year’s Eve. So, as we bid our old office adieu, from our penguin family to yours, here’s to a healthy and successful 2019! Now, on to the celebration and knowledge sharing! Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! Ah, the holiday joy of moving offices. Maybe it's the sounds of packing tape, or realizing our Soapbox Engage offices had way too much stuff on shelves I didn't remember existed. Actually, I think it's the way rediscovering old relics and the good memories that come along for the ride. That's a photo of the "cloud", circa 2004. I found that server under some softball equipment yesterday (Softballer$ forever!). Back in our early years, we were one of the first companies to build and host websites for US Congress, which we called HouseWeb. You can imagine the fun of government shutdowns back then. This holiday season, I'm incredibly thankful companies like Salesforce and others are powering the "cloud" (don't forget, it's really still a bunch of servers), giving folks like our team a chance to focus on the needs of fundraisers. And moving. Here's to wishing you all a happy holiday season, and hopefully, a moving-free end of 2019! It's that time of year when I can walk over to the lobby of the Willard Hotel in downtown Washington, DC, listen to Christmas carolers, and then visit the largest gingerbread remake of DCA airport. The only thing they're missing is me frantically running to a gate trying to make a flight. This week, it's wheels down time with friends and family in the nation's capital, and one heck of a Soapbox Engage holiday party tomorrow night (come one, come all, to Dupont Circle). Before we send off 2018 too quickly, we still have two more PUB Crawls full of community goodness rolling off the assembly line. So, grab your favorite holiday season beverage, and dive into another week of knowledge with me. Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! With the 2018 NPSP Day tour now in the rearview mirror, I've begun to collect the lessons learned and gather great community stories from 2018. Plus, we've got the Soapbox Engage holiday party in DC next week (if you're in town, come join us!), and celebrations to kick off 2019 right around the corner. There's lots to cover before 2018 wraps up! Which is why I figured, heck, might as well get one more trip in before the year ends. As has been a ridiculous tradition among some friends, I started the year-end with a marathon. Luckily, writing this PUB Crawl requires no leg workout, and I'm hoping a kind "good afternoon!" to the plane's pilot tomorrow will increase the chances of a drop off right in front of my office tomorrow. This week has been another exciting week in the Power of Us Hub, and with one of the community's final gatherings for the year at the Salesforce World Tour in NY this week, it looks like the community is coming in strong for the final knowledge sharing in 2018. So, grab a seat, and enjoy this week's round of knowledge! Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today! While the numbers are still being talied, early estimates from last week's #GivingTuesday suggest $400 million was raised in the United States alone. How did it go for your nonprofit? We know you’re probably now in the thick of your end-of-year/holiday fundraising campaign, but we want you to take a minute to think about how you are giving back to your donors, as they continue to give to you. How are you showing gratitude this holiday season for all that your community has done to support your mission? As with everything else you have done this year to create smart, successful fundraising campaigns, showing thanks and giving back to your donors requires good storytelling and excellent data. Instead of using these two key elements to develop appeals, compelling copy, and determine prospects, you can apply them to showing your donors what they have helped you to achieve this year, and how the important work you’re doing would not be possible without them -- now, and in the future. Here are a few ideas: NPSP Day New Delhi is in the books, completing our first event on the Asian continent! It was awesome to see fellow non-profit community members at the event like Shonnah Hughes, other new friends from the US (and in my own city of Washington, DC!), and even Trish Perkins who arrived from Darjeeling. This was the first time an NPSP Day was done in conjunction with a Salesforce community "dreamin'" event, as our friends at India Dreamin' were gracious hosts and encouraged a new generation of contributors to our NPSP open source community. To be honest, I'm exhausted right now. With bit of travel whiplash, I'm heading back to the US in a few hours, and the travel doesn't stop there. So, before I fall asleep at the Delhi airport, let me pour you a round of knowledge here in the PUB, and run to my gate to catch my flight!
