PUB Crawl for October 2, 2017

This weekend, I was looking up from the base of the final climb up Yosemite's Half Dome and thought to myself, "this is probably pretty stupid". I geared up with a pair of gloves, and for 20 minutes, I was forced, by sheer gravity, to stop thinking about Salesforce best practices for handling accrual accounting and focus on not sliding off the granite.

When I reached the top, and finished kissing the ground, I had a chance to soak in the view from the rooftop of the valley. It was amazing, and it didn't require any Internet connection to make it happen (I checked).

The summit of Half Dome

We're living in this always-connected, cloud-run world, and sometimes, we miss the beauty around us. So, while you're diving into the knowledge sharing from the community this week, think about taking that small break your mind needs to recharge and refocus. If you're heading to Dreamforce in a few weeks, you'll need all the defragmented brain storage you can get.

Let's dive in, shall we?

Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today!

Great Posts from the Salesforce Power of Us Hub

  1. How-to Recipe: Chart New Donor Acquisition Cumulatively by Month Over the Last 5 Years
    Tim Forbes (Soapbox Engage)

If implementing this powerful chart takes you more than 30 minutes, Tim will eat his hat. Please don't send us hats, but definitely try out this awesome recipe.

  2. How to calculate most common donation amount, or mode
    Jennifer Maerz (National Immigration Forum)

The word "mode" gives me flashbacks back to my statistics classes. Quick, get the answer in this thread before I have to remember all those statistically significant classes I took.

  3. Survey questions for a poll on what nonprofits are spending on Salesforce
Scott Williams (Embrace Your Data LLC)

I'm still looking for the toolbox that someone at a hardware store freely gives me that properly responds to my command, "make me a house". We should probably set our expectations for donated software the same way. How can we as a community measure the real total cost of ownership?

  4. Salesforce Leads: Pros and Cons for Nonprofits
    Janna Rawls (Cloud for Good)

Few things warm my Salesforce heart as much as a robust discussion about the benefits of Leads for non-profits. Yeah, I'm that nerdy. Julie Workman walks you through it all so you can debate me effectively on it at Dreamforce this year.

  5. Sharing donor call list amongst staff/board
    Simon Abramson (Wild Earth)

Keeping your team and leadership on the right path (hint: the one that leads to better fundraising success) can be challenging if they're just running through a report. How do you make it easier for them to work through a call list to bring that funding in the door efficiently?

  6. Reserve a Solution Exchange at Dreamforce
    Anne Young (Salesforce.org)

You know those great one-on-one conversations you end up having on the carpeted hallway floor of a conference? How about moving to the comfy environs of an actual meeting place!

Great Ideas for Nonprofits Using Salesforce
