Getting Started with Microsoft Dynamics for Nonprofits

Getting Started with Microsoft Dynamics for Nonprofits

You've made the decision to start using Microsoft Dynamics 365 for your organization, but you don't know where to start. We know it can be daunting wading through the Microsoft ecosystem, so we're here to hand you a map and compass to get you started in the right direction.

This guide gives you commonly asked questions for new organizations that are just getting started with Microsoft Dynamics, and are looking for the first steps they'll need to take. We've put this post together in a frequently asked questions format because we keep hearing the same questions being asked and wonder "isn't there a place where all these questions are being answered?"

We couldn't find one, so we figured we'd roll up our sleeves and get to work. We'll keep updating this over time as community questions keep coming in.

Let's dive in!

How do I find my onmicrosoft.com domain?

Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and go to Settings > Domains, and look for the domain that says "*.onmicrosoft".

How do I assign my Microsoft Dynamics licenses to my staff?

Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and go to Billing > Licenses, and click on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise license, and then click the "Assign licenses" link and enter the email addresses of the users that should have access to the licenses.

Where can a Microsoft user find Microsoft Dynamics after licenses have been assigned to them?

Go to the Office 365 website, and then click the All Apps icon in the bottom-left, and then click on the Business Apps heading, which will take you to all the Microsoft Dynamics 365 and PowerApps installed in your tenant that you have access to using.

If you're just starting, and have not made an initial environment yet, you'll first need to go to the Power Platform admin center to make your first environment.

How do I create my first Microsoft Dynamics or Microsoft PowerApps environment?

  1. Go to the Power Platform admin center
  2. Click the Environments link in the left navigation
  3. Click the New button
  4. Fill out the form related to the environment. If you want to use this for a database that uses Microsoft Dataverse or Microsoft Dynamics, choose, "Create a database for this environment" to be "Yes".
