Great Posts from the Salesforce Power of Us Hub

  1. Blog: Image Based Salesforce
Terry Cole (Street Youth Ministry of Austin)

A picture is worth 1000 words— but how can they be utilized in Salesforce? In this blog post, Terry Cole writes about the potential of using images front and center in Salesforce, which may be the standard in a not so distant future.

  2. Card Testing Fraud Attacks
    Amy Frankel (Wildlife Conservation Network)

Sometimes when credit cards are stolen, they are "tested" out on nonprofit donation pages to see if transactions will go through. This is because 1) there's no product sold requiring a real mailing address, 2) it is assumed nonprofits don't have the technical resources to catch and mitigate fraud, and 3) starting with a small donation amount is more likely to fly under the radar.

Multiple protections can be put in place, but this won't stop all fraudulent transactions. Head to this post to share your process when payments do make it through (refund, wait for disputes, etc.).

  3. Using NPSP/Household Account Model When Most Opportunities are Made by Organizations
    Tech Impact (Tech Impact)

This organization is using NPSP and the Household Account model in Salesforce, but their original consultant did not associate all Contacts with Households. Instead, most Contacts had their Account set as their place of business or organization. The org primarily deals with other organizations, not individual donors.

They are now considering whether to associate all Contacts with Households going forward. They are using a blended account model and seeking advice from others who have faced a similar situation. Share your recommendations!

  4. Masking Employee Information in Salesforce
Andrew Thompson (Special Olympics of Illinois)

Event-based organizations may find that their employees frequently donate, making their personal information and donor history accessible in Salesforce to those with general access. What is the best way to mask this information for everyone except system administrators?

One idea is implementing a new record type with associated filters, but this raises some longevity concerns. Visit this thread to view or share alternative solutions!

  5. Zip Code-Based City, County, and State Data Retrieval
Ralph Welch (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry)

This Trailblazer is seeking a solution that can take a 5 digit zip code and provide city, county, and state data— so their org can automatically identify the locations of walk-up ticket buyers who provide their zip codes. While zip code boundaries may not always align perfectly with city and county boundaries, they can at least provide a geographic estimate! Share your recs on apps or address verification tools that could do the trick!

Great Ideas for Nonprofits Using Salesforce

  1. Improve Clarity of Predefined Appointment Availability in Appointment Manager
    Cameron Johnson (Western Michigan University)

This idea aims to enhance the clarity of predefined appointment availability in the Appointment Manager within the Student Success Hub. Currently, support staff cannot easily identify the availability of other staff members when scheduling appointments. This becomes an issue when a staff member has no availability in the next 7 days, disabling the "First Available" shortcut button.
