PUB Crawl for June 5, 2017

It might be the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere, but you wouldn't think it was vacation time in Salesforce world. As the Salesforce Summer 17 release rolls out this week, admins everywhere are digging into the newest features while wiggling toes into the sand.

Summer time

Summer here in DC means more softball, humidity, and likely a pretty unforgettable week of politics. So while the world feels like it's gearing up for an endless news cycle, I'm going to pry myself away from the TV and cozy up to 500 pages of release notes. In spite of what we see on the TV these days of a divided world, the Power of Us Hub continues to be a the prime example of how we're better when we collaborate to solve tough challenges.

So turn off your TV news channel of choice, take a deep breath, and let's dive into some community goodness.

Don't forget, you can have the goodness of the PUB Crawl delivered into your inbox each Monday morning by subscribing today!

Great Posts from the Salesforce Power of Us Hub

  1. What are the risks of using the household account model, but adding contacts directly to organization accounts?
Amy Crumbliss (The Columbia Heights Initiative)

I don't think I'm ever going to let this type of question miss a PUB Crawl edition. Thinking about the right Account model for a mixed use organization is pretty darn important. Here's another shot at providing some best practices.

  2. Is there a way to automatically assign soft credit to spouses in a household?
Jason Kelly (Foundation for Economic Education)

Ah, the automated creation of Household Member Opportunity Contact Roles is a thing of beauty in the NPSP...except when it comes to legacy data.

  3. [WEBINAR] Operationalizing Gratitude: Effective and Timely Thank Yous for Increased Donor Retention
    Tim Forbes (Soapbox Engage)

How and when you give thanks to your donors can be a critical factor for increasing your community's support of your cause. Learn how you can leverage Salesforce to increase your fundraising success through a little thanks.

  4. Profiles vs. Permission Sets
Scott Williams (Embrace Your Data LLC)

I know. Half of your eyes have just glazed over, and you've moved to the next post. But stop, read, and take a moment to tool-up on an important security topic. Then, big swig of coffee, and move on.

  5. Why People Participate in Communities
    Anne Young (Salesforce.org)

It's not too often that I'll add a post that I disagree with (the original article, not the poster here...I don't disagree with Anne, ever, I know better)...but heck, it's nearly summer time. Let's break a champagne bottle over the bow of this boat and set sail for a debate.

  6. Can I use products to itemize/value in-kind donations?
    Kala Weinacker (Homeward Bound)

Aside from Leads, one of my favorite under-utilized Sales Cloud features are Products and Opportunity Line Items. I think this is a great example of using them wisely for tracking in-kind donations.

Looking for the right set of tools to data clean-up and management? Here's the community's favorites.
