PUB Crawl for October 3, 2016

Phil Penn GwynnToday is the first anniversary of the PUB Crawl, and I couldn't be more satisfied than to be writing it alongside individuals I've been honored to serve alongside in our Salesforce non-profit sector. The PUB Crawl was started to fill a gap I saw in our community's knowledge sharing. Others feel the same way about other areas in our community. Now it's time to combine our talents and take this vision further.

At the Goat Farm Retreat (it's a long story) this weekend in California, a group of dedicated individuals from across the US designed a plan to find and fill gaps in the non-profit Salesforce ecosystem. There's too much to cover in a PUB Crawl intro, so if you see any of the folks in the photo below at Dreamforce, ask them "what's up with this Goat Farm Retreat?"

Then, get ready to have your mind blown.

I'm excited to see this natural evolution within our ecosystem, and look forward to continuing to share more as we have a chance to collaborate with each other, and you, more. We're ready to help every organization leverage this technology to be successful.

  5. How to create a random list of clients with a certain attribute
    Annette Higgins (HOPE)

Randomness is useful for a number of functions, such as a lottery system and determining the type of burrito to order. It also has much more noble causes, like serving the homeless, which Annette is trying to tackle using Salesforce and random samples.

  6. Price book considerations with discounts
Kai Williams (International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council)

Pricebooks can be really useful, but also really confusing when trying to tackle all the ways one item can be priced for different buyers. Learn how you can tackle this challenge using standard Salesforce Products and Opportunities.

  7. Post Dreamforce report?
    Lucas Veldhuis (Alaska Conservation Foundation)

Dreamforce is so overwhelming, it's impossible to sum it up alone. But what if you had the power of the community to help you build a report of what was shared at Dreamforce? Learn how you can contribute to a post-Dreamforce report for the non-profit community.

  8. Expo pass for Dreamforce. What can I/ should I do to make the most of it?
Eric Henderson (Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in California)

Even if you don't have a full pass to Dreamforce this year, you still have an opportunity to collect great ideas and network at this massive event!

Great Ideas for Nonprofits Using Salesforce

  1. Rollup of individual household member preferences to household
    Cindy Gavelek (Confluence Corporation)

Often times, the preferences of an individual Contact set the preference of a Household. Imagine a "do not contact" request made by a Contact. That likely should also be followed by the Household. Here's a great idea tackling this type of request in a quick manner.

That's all for this week! Did I miss something? Have any tips or suggestions? Send all tip jar suggestions to me at cozimek@picnet.net.
