Theatre and Technology – Together?

Does this sound like an oxymoron or what? Theatre and technology together on one stage? Well you heard correct. Last night, PICnet DC employees got to see The Agony and Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, a monologue performed by the incredibly talented Mike Daisey. And to say that this performance made me think more about technology, how we communicate with one other, as well as labor practices in China, is an understatement.

What I loved most about this play is that Daisey perfectly balances his love for technology and all things Apple products (hilariously so), while also explaining his visits and conversations with workers in factories in Shenzhen, China.  At times, I laughed so hard I cried; at other times, I was enraged by this sad story of work safety practices. Regardless of which scene Daisey performed, I was captivated by his storytelling about the infamous Steve Jobs.

I think this was a great outing for all of us PICnetters to attend. Not only was it “out of the box” for most of our employees, but it also was an entertaining evening to learn more about where the technology we all hold so dear and about where that technology really comes from.
